What is your team expecting from you in 2023?

Despite hiring freezes and economic turbulence, demand for tech talent remains high. Therefore, it's crucial to bolster your company's work environment and internal culture. Doing this will boost motivation, productivity, staff retention, and overall well-being - all vital components of a successful and loyal workforce.

According to Dice 2022 Tech Sentiment Report, 52% of technology professionals responded that they are likely to change employers this following year, compared to the 44% reported last year. The report also showed a significant inclination towards remote work and the importance of an employer's brand and company culture (both driving factors in their decision to stay or join a company).

  • Investing in retention strategies has become vital in today's hiper-competitive market. The report has found that 52% of technology professionals are likely to change employers in the following year. This increase represents a great opportunity since more tech candidates are passively open to new opportunities.

  • In InformationWeek 2022 U.S. IT Salary Report, 46% of IT Professionals prioritize work-life balance. Therefore, organizations that actively prevent burnout and prioritize employees' well-being, like instituting options for flexible work hours, will continue to thrive in today's competitive market.

  • Tech professionals strongly prefer remote work compared to a hybrid workplace setting. In Dice's report, 60% of tech professionals ranked 100% remote work as their desired workplace setting. 76% of respondents mentioned that remote work is crucial because it's more cost-effective, and 69% said it gives them a feeling of more control.

  • Although they prefer remote work, they still recognize shortcomings that companies must consider. Professionals have stated that organizations must invest in employee engagement initiatives, mentoring programs, and additional communication channels that cultivate community.

  • If an employer's brand, reputation, or company culture could use some work, it is time to prioritize it. Dice 2022 Sentiment Report has found that nearly 90% of respondents said that they feel an employer's brand is essential when considering new opportunities.

πŸ’― The secret to unlocking your potential as a leader.

Self-leadership can be defined as knowing how to understand ourselves. It englobes learning about our emotions, strengths, motivators, and how we confront uncertainties and life's hardships. To be able to guide a team, you have to start by leading and understanding yourself first.

πŸ›£οΈ Where is tech going?

A group at McKinsey's has investigated what 2023 might hold for tech and offered some new year's tech resolutions worth considering.

Looking ahead in a volatile market like tech can be tricky. Nevertheless, some predictions can be drawn by analyzing data and reports. The new year is an excellent opportunity to take a fresh look at your strategy and plan where to focus your energies in the upcoming months.

However, it's crucial not to fall into the hypes in the industry - look at NFTs and crypto. Differentiating what a real innovation is and a buzz can be tricky. Some reports have stated that 2023 will be a level-headed year due to geopolitical and economic uncertainties.

  • One of McKinsey's resolutions: Look out for combinatorial trends. In 2022, studies found 14 technologies that have the potential to change how we work and live: space technologies, clean tech, AI, and immersive reality technologies. For companies in 2023, the challenge is finding new opportunities that combined technologies can yield when used together.

  • The second resolution: Prepare for game-changing technologies. AI, 5G, and cloud are reshaping the industry. McKinsey's studies report that companies are looking to move about 60% of their IT estate to cloud by 2025. Also, 50% of companies say they're adopting AI in at least one area of their business. Nevertheless, adopting this requires prioritizing the budget for upgrading IT foundations.
